Our Story
Singergie’s founder, Lynne Jack, noticed that many people in her own village were struggling to emerge from lockdown; looking for a sense of connection, belonging, and a way to lift spirits without adding financial pressure. Determined to create something special, Lynne contacted her friend Chris, an immensely talented guitarist, and together they planned what was meant to be one small choir in East Calder, right next to her home.

She posted about the idea on the local Facebook page and the response was overwhelming. Requests arrived for both a daytime and an evening choir, and before Singergie had even opened its doors, that single wee idea had already grown into two choirs.

From the very beginning, Lynne’s vision was clear: Singergie would be inclusive, welcoming, and free for everyone. No fees, no barriers - just community, music, and joy. On the first Monday night she set out 20 chairs, nervously hoping people would come. Amazingly, 63 people walked through the door.

The momentum only grew.

Videos shared on social media sparked waves of enquiries from across Scotland. Within five months, we had launched Singergie choirs in Glasgow and Edinburgh. Coaches Ali and Ellyn joined the team, along with trustee Mike as an accompanist.

A year later, Lomond and Auchengray/Tarbrax joined the family, with accompanists Matthew and Dave also coming on board.

February 2024 saw choirs 8 and 9 open in Touch, Dunfermline, where almost 100 people attended the very first evening session. The team expanded again, welcoming Coach Maria and guitarist Chris S.

Today, Singergie has become a part of everyday life for over a thousand people. Members who had previously been isolated, anxious, or lacking confidence have found a safe, joyful space to belong. Many tell us that the community, the routine, and the sheer joy of singing together have helped improve their wellbeing in meaningful ways.

Alongside coaching several choirs herself, Lynne manages the charity’s operations; from administration and governance to safeguarding, fundraising, and the smooth running of every group. None of it would be possible without Singergie’s incredible network of volunteer helpers, accompanists, coaches, and supporters who keep everything flowing week after week.

At Singergie, our ethos is simple: Everyone is welcome. Everyone belongs. We sing, we laugh, we learn, and we build community together. And thanks to our free-to-join model, Singergie remains open and accessible to all, exactly as it was meant to be.
